November 11, 2010 – “Step AWAY from the Computer”

We all have devices; handhelds, pc’s, macs, ipods, ipads, iphones, Blackberry’s, notebooks, laptops, televisions.  And with each device comes this connection; but a connection to what?  Can you “step away” after you have completed your business or your communication or after watching a movie or posting a few comments on Facebook?  What drives you to play games all night, to compulsively check-in with social media every minute, or watch endless hours of television?  Listen in as Taraborelli and Ludwig share their insights into this modern addiction and how it can subtly suck your life force and limit subjectivity while you don’t even know it is happening.  It is time to learn awareness and tools and they will be supplied.  Because let’s be real, electronics are as accessible as alcohol and they are not going away.

Dean Taraborelli is the founder of The Sanctuary at Sedona, an alternative healing program for people stuck in addiction, self destructive patterns, crisis or difficult life transitions.  www.sanctuary.net

November 18, 2010 – “Drama…..Need We Say More?                  ”

Rev. Karen Paschal’s personal favorite, drama addiction is the subject of this week’s show with Ludwig.  Together, they discuss the root, the needs and the core beliefs of those who tend to recycle drama in their life.  What is the payoff for living a drama-filled life and how can we recognize when we are immersed?  Listen in as Paschal delivers tools and ideas on how to differentiate between your inner “Sarah Bernhardt” and your true Self.

Karen Paschal is the Senior Minister and Spiritual Director of New Dawn Center for Spiritual Living. Rev. Karen has been described as a visionary, idealist and powerful leader who has led New Dawn Center for Spiritual Living to be a “beacon of hope” not only in the community, but in the world.  www.scienceofmind.org.

November 25, 2010 – “Building Spiritual Money Mastery during the Holidays—Really”

Karen Russo shares insights for releasing fear, frustration and overwhelm with money based on insights from her 25 years of business success and her wisdom as an ordained Religious Science minister.  Russo defines “spiritual money mastery” and specifically addresses recovery and how this is relevant to transformation into a recovered lifestyle.  Financial awareness, abuse and a sense of lack are at an all-time high.  The holidays do not give us an excuse to keep our heads in the sand to salve our woes by creating higher credit card debt, it is a time to be present with all things spending and make changes at a core level.  Listen in as Russo and Ludwig address this timely subject and give you a new outlook and tools that will take you beyond your current beliefs around money.

You can think of Karen Russo as ‘Your Spiritual Guide in Wealth Creation’—something we all need these days.  Karen Russo is a transformational speaker, coach and the author of The Money Keys: Unlocking Peace, Freedom and Real Financial Power.  www.themoneykeys.com

“Building a Solid Foundation” with Eddie Watkins, Jr. & Ken Ludwig,” Making It Out Alive”

Listen NowListen NowSubscribeMaking It Out Alive on Facebook

Ken LudwigEddie Watkins, Jr.New Thought musician and Musical Director of Center for Spiritual Living Seattle, Eddie Watkins Jr., stops by to talk about his early days as a young session bass player for Motown artists. Eddie tells Ken about building a solid foundation for his sobriety through AA before moving on to explore the higher visions of who he is becoming. It’s a fascinating discussion because Eddie, like Ken, credits the program for his getting sober, but also like Ken, knew clearly that there was more to be explored beyond AA.

“My music is an expression of all the experiences of my life.”  Growing up in the ghettos of Detroit, going to piano lessons with coins tied up in a handkerchief, watching tanks roll down his street in the ’67 Detroit riots; being sent to Athens, Georgia to stay with Grandma Frankie every summer where meals were cooked on a wood burning stove; all of these experiences contribute to the feeling which pours out of Eddie’s music.  This combined with playing bass on recordings with the Temptations and Marvin Gaye at 17, being “brought up” by the Motown Greats, becoming a studio musician, making lots of money, moving to LA with Motown, substance abuse and recovery; led to a spiritual search which brought him here.

When Eddie moved to Las Vegas, he became involved in Religious Science and a new type of music was born.  His first CD was conceived, recorded, produced and selling in six months.  A month later Eddie was at Asilomar on the music team and the journey began.  Eddie’s second CD “We Come Together” was released in June of 08, the third in three years “And So It Is” was released in June 09.  Eddie served three years as the Music Director at Center for Spiritual Living in Las Vegas and is currently the Music Director at the Center for Spiriitual Living in Seattle Washington.

For those of you who reside in Denver, Eddie will be Mile Hi Church’s special guest at “Recovered Living” on Friday evening, August 27, 2010.  “I know what my life purpose is, to share this music with the world.” www.eddiewatkinsjr.com

“Failing Alchoholics Anonymous” With Ken Ludwig, Making It Out Alive

SubscribeMaking It Out Alive on Facebook

Ken LudwigI keep running into what is best described as “interesting” opinions in the 12 step community around the idea that there is even the possibility of recovery outside alcoholics anonymous. AA members insist that those who don’t get sober and stay sober in AA are simply not working the program. Despite its reputation for being the most successful vehicle for long term sobriety, AA can boast a 10% success rate at best. I find it hard to believe that the other 90% just didn’t “work” the program.

The program seems to have become more important than its mission and has always rejected any inkling of flexibility and growth. Like so many other belief systems that become religious around their dogma and practices, people are repelled by and rebel against rigid systems of one-size-fits-all. There will always be common traits and behaviors exhibited by substance abusers, but they are as different in abuse and sobriety as they are individuals in every other aspect of their lives.

There will always be people who reject the idea of being powerless over any external substance. The whole idea of addiction as disease is more up for question than ever. I believe the greatest source of AA “failures” are products of their internal desire for more than just being sober; those who want to delve into the reasons for their attempts to self-medicate. And there is no shortage of people who just refuse to believe that AA meetings are the only therapy that will keep their incurable diagnosis in remission. But try explaining that idea to those who consider themselves AA success stories – and good luck with that.

On my new radio show, “Making It Out Alive” we’re going to discuss this issue from both sides. I’m going to bring you new, up-to-date information from those who believe we can absolutely transcend any and all addictions without having to embrace the idea that I am powerless over my behavior, addicted for life and hopelessly sentenced to a lifetime of meetings. Join me every Thursday for a new edition of the show – http://www.spiritmedianetwork.com/moa.htm.
